Abstract

Offshore and Shipping are requiring vessels able to sail everywhere at full performances and reliability: technicians have to provide a range of products for multiple boundary conditions, in particular the environmental ones.

Referring to power units, an analysis can be done upon 4-stroke diesel engines when running in Arctic and Tropic regions. Such big range of ambient conditions, affects engine heat balance and machine thermodynamics driving to cooling and running performances different from the design ones.

After introducing typical layouts and principles of cooling and turbocharging systems, this work will underline the criticalities of Arctic and Tropic fields and how is possible to recover them with some different optimized system layouts.

The work will assure compact advantages for heat recovery, efficiency, thermal performances.
