Abstract

The paper will deepen the main current and upcoming technological and product innovations in Maritime Telecommunications.

The innovations in question relate to both “Shipmanagement” and “Innovative Fabrication Technologies”.

They are in the field of converging Mobile Satellite Services and “FSS”, such as very small aperture terminal (“VSAT”) services. This convergence aims at matching unlimited connectivity and flat rates with global coverage.

We shall introduce innovations in C-Band VSAT that can combine the best of the sub-mentioned technological options.

The most promising innovations are in the field of value added services and applications delivering tangible value for money to owners.

Telemar designed and co-develop a solution, packaging in innovative ways latest technologies, in order to deliver a complete package of applications and voice, messaging and data services for smartphones and tablets.

Based on user friendliness and beautiful user interfaces, this will allow to improve crew welfare trough lowest cost ever for crew communication, as well as to deliver tangible value to owners and ship managers and their superintentendents and masters trough business critical applications.

These applications range from fleet management to remote e-bridge maintenance and tracking, from security to GPS location, as well as from news & sport to weather and infotainment.

This package of solutions is expected to be a change of paradigm and an actual value driver for ship owners and managers, whilst at the same time reinventing fruitfully the ways masters, seafarers and crew work and live on board.
