Abstract

This paper suggests a model of training for staff of ships cruise to learn communication skills in the management of risk. Referring to the recent disaster of the ship Costa Concordia, we believe that greater attention should be paid to the training of the crew especially with regard to their communication skills. The first aspect of risk communication is figuring out how to alert people without  terrorize them. The main question in the job of risk communication is to shake people by their individual lapels. The other component of risk communication is figuring out how to calm people down and what to do when anxiety about a risk is a greater threat to health than the risk itself.According to the positive psycological litterature and following the methodology of action research we belive that the training should supply a lot of activities in order to improve risk communication competences as well as a valuable pedagogical and psychological support in becoming effective helpers in risk situations through development of life skills, coping strategies and personal resilience.
