Abstract


Submarine Search and Rescue Organization is a highly specialized and demanding activity reliant on specific assets and for which a professional combination of timely response, technologies, specific equipment and procedures is absolutely essential. The IT NAVY draws continuous attention to this subject with particular stress on safety towards It Navy Submariners.

In order to guarantee prompt and professional response to SUBSAR operations, It Navy has developed standard procedures, capabilities and training for the prevention, recovery and management of submarine accidents as well as deployability of state-of- the-art specialized equipment.

To accomplish full and professional SAR activity, the It Navy counts on the following SUBSAR Organization:

 

-  Operational Submarine Rescue Procedures (Operative, technical and standard publications)

-  International cooperation (Member of ISMERLO organization (International Submarine Escape and Rescue Liaison Office) and agreement with other nations

-  Search and Survey Equipment

-  Underwater Intervention Tools

-  Life Extension Equipment for Survivors

-  Submarine Training Facilities

-  IT Navy Submarine Department - Divers Group / SPAG Joint Exercises

-  NATO exercises

-  Underwater Intervention Support Unit (New Project)   

Likewise, Submarine SAR Organization also includes medical care aspects requiring specific medical assets and specialized personnel and proper training, all activities that due to their particular nature need specialized attention to understand or handle medical problems peculiar to underwater activities, such as decompression sickness, air embolism, and nitrogen narcosis.
