This paper presents the European project “LOG – PAC”, that has the objective to create a network of inland ports authorities for promoting inland waterways system. The main aim of LOG-PAC, project co-financed at 50% by DGMOVE, is to incentive and stimulate the private operators to use the existing infrastructures of the inland navigation system, through the communication of local site opportunities, the definition of a package of logistic installation and the definition of an incentive mechanism.

LOG-PAC is related to a wider project called “Master Plan of the Northern Italy Waterway System”, started in December 2009 and just ended, whose partners are institutions responsible for the Coordination of the functional development of the Northern Italy and Northern Adriatic inland waterway system. The Province of Mantua is holding the Presidency of the coordination consortium and assigned to ALOT s.c.a r.l.(Agency of East Lombardy for Transport and Logistics) the support of the project. Overall objective of the Plan is to define a global strategy in order to enhance the efficiency of the logistics and freight transport chain in the Northern Italy inland waterways and to improve the planning and coordination of operational activities, by joining all existing local plans and projects in a unique outline.
