Abstract
The new numerical simulation technologies and the advanced optimization tools merge together to face in detailed and efficient manner the design problem of the composite material structures. The direct application of the avant-garde simulation technologies in the marine field allows to evaluate the mechanical behavior of the composite structures, optimizing shape, thicknesses, laminate stacking sequences, the section and position of the stiffeners within the reinforced hull panels. The design tool ESAComp and the multiobjective and multidisciplinary optimization environment modeFRONTIER interact with each other to maximize the performance of the whole structure through engineering evaluation criteria fully integrated within the composite design chain. The application of the ESAComp-modeFRONTIER interface in the boat world allows to achieve performance improvements, to perform shape optimization, to reduce time-to-market and to engineer the product technologies and production processes.
