Abstract
Work related stress, mental and physical fatigue, disturbed sleep and mood are factors worsening functional status of seafarers. It mihght be crucial for decreasing operational readiness and situational awareness of seafarers and increasing risk of accidents and injuries at work during sea missions. This paper introduces a web-based system for seaferers' functional status assessment during sea missions. The Web system is based on client-server architecture and the international open source technologies including Apache web server, PHP scripts and MySQL data base. The system includes administrative data and following questionnaires: Multidimensional fatigue inventory, Sleep diary, Hospital anxiety and depression scale, Pittsburgh sleep quality questionnaire, and SF-36. ECG monitoring up till 72-hour period with further analysis of heart rate variability for assessment of functional status modifications under work-related stress conditions is forerseen. The first results of the initial practical realization of the web-based data base are presented. Technically, the computerized system provides a remote access to data base and enhances information management and information processing capabilities. Practically, the developed system provides an opportunity to assess the functional status of seafarers and detect the changes in physical and mental status evoked by work load or stress during sea mission.
